New Race Formats in July

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

Next month we will be changing up the game plan to encourage even more competitive racing at the Wed night crit. Each week we will have multiple races of varying lengths, miss and outs, $5 a lpap, etc. We will be doing a series leader championship race each month, but it will be separate of the weekly races.

This way, each week is it’s own race and the championship will be decided in one race on the last Saturday per month. The courses that we do these races on will also change each month to keep things interesting. This should kep things interesting and fun and the racing positively competitive.

For more info, please visit the Wed Night Crit page at http://www.endurofit.com/Events/Wed%20Night%20Crit.html

See you all on Saturday for our first finale event. It’s gonna be a ton of fun.

Tampa Training Crit Series Begins April 28th

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

That’s right! Finally! Tampa is going to have a week day training race again. John Gissal and I are reviving the once prolific Tampa Training Crit that used to be one of the best ways to get your race legs on, stay in shape and have fun on your bike during the week.

Once run by BBC leaders Dave and Sheri Stedje and crew, this race helped produce lots of local talent and provided a great community building, grass roots cycling development. It’s our goal to continue that tradition and help further develop cycling at the local level.

The driving force is a desire to have a good week day training race to help sharpen everyone’s fitness, help mentor newer riders to racing and build community. Come one, come all and bring your friends. Spectators and volunteers welcome. It is sure to be a great time for all.

For all of the info, stay tuned and check out the Crit Page at http://www.endurofit.com/Events/Tampa%20Training%20Crit.html

Biggest Crowd Yet at First ‘08 Cyclo-Cross Clinic

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

Last night at Alpenrose Dairy, in SW Portland, Erik Tonkin and his crew of volunteer coaches hosted the first of the annual Sellwood Cycle CCX clinics for their biggest crowd yet. Over 150 CCX enthusiasts gathered en mass at Alpenrose to practice their skills under the tutelage of local CCX pros and top amateurs.

Coaches included the likes of Erik Tonkin, Rhonda Mazza, Shannon Skerrit, Molly Cameron, Sue Butler, Wendy Williams and others. This clinic provides a rare opportunity for new and old CCX racers and enthusiasts to practice their skills under the guidance of such experienced and skilled coaches and racers.

Attendees were broken up into groups depending on experience and skill level so they could learn at their own pace. Each group had at least 2 coaches overseeing it and some times more. Drills were aimed at helping participants improve their skills by learning proper technique.

No matter your skill level, these clinics offer a unique opportunity to hone your skils for the upcoming racing season. There are only two more of these clinics left, so head on out to the Alpenrose Dairy next week to work on your mounts, dismounts, barrier skills and bike handling with other CCX enthusiasts. Be sure to stop by the BLOG next week for photos from the clinics.

To find out more about the clinics, give Erik and the folks at Sellwood Cycle Repair a call at 503.233.9392. To find out about the upcoming races this season, visit the the Oregon Bicycle racing Asociation at www.obra.org and www.crosscrusade.com
