Cherry Pie In the News

Friday, February 29th, 2008

If you were one of the many who did the earliest season race here in the Portland area then you may find yourself in this article.

And if you didn’t, I’m sure you’ll enjoy reading about it. Check out this article sent in to us by Flo Leibowitz whose team, Willamette Valley Cycling, was largely responsible for running the race.

The Cherry Pie Road Race name originated because in the early years of the race top award recipients received whole cherry pies as prizes.”

Donate Some Blood Without Crashing

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

Local super star, masters road and CX phenom, Kim Rueter’s husband is holding a blood drive at his store on Saturday off Macadam (SP?) and Taylor’s Ferry Rd.

If you have a few moments, stop by a few hours after your training once you’ve recovered to help give back and be of service. You can check out his great store while you are there, especially for the windsurfing, skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts.
It won’t affect your training, unless you’re racing the next day. Just don’t kill it on Sunday, but riding long and moderately won’t be a problem at all.

Goodness knows that we cyclists have some healthy blood, so check it out if you’re interested at the link below.

Thanks Kim! Those Sorella Forte girls sure know how to give back. Keep up the good work guys, and thanks to Mr. Rueter!

Coaching & Performance Quote of the Week

Monday, February 25th, 2008

I was sent this quote by none other than Endurofit Team member, Flo Leibowitz, and I found it to be so appropriate, that I just had to share it with the world.
“Don’t try to change what you are doing. Just notice what you are doing.”

-Tim Galway (author of Inner Game of Tennis; Inner Skiing), about changing behavior and improving performance.

***As provided by an Oregon State University Metrics, Tracking & Coaching list-serve.

Take it for what its worth to you, but I found it to be one of the most intuitive and insightful quotes regarding performance that I have read in a long time.Enjoy!

Endurofit Team Meber & National Champion On the Podium Already in ‘08

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

Marianne Holt, a 50+ Cat 2 and last years Time Trial National champion and RR silver medalist is already at it again with two podium finishes in her first outing of the season at the Tour of the Bahamas!

This race was held in the sunny climes and beautiful scenery of the Bahamas, making us Portlanders jealous. I’ll take that over 40 degrees and rainy any old day! AEG Toshiba and members of the Chipotle/SlipStream teams were on hand to make it a great early season event.

Marianne and the other 1/2 women got to race with the masters men’s fields and it appears to have paid off. After all, Marianne is quite used to this as a perennial top finisher in any mass start ride that she does, often times being on of only a few women finishers in these events.

Check out the photos of Marianne in her early season glory! BTW, she’s the one in black and has at least 10-15 years on her competition! :-)

Congratulations Marianne! You’re off to a great start at what’s going to be another spectacular season!
