Hincapie Cycling Women’s Elite Team News

To keep up with one of the newly developing top regional teams of the southeast US, check out the blog of the Hincapie Sports Women’s Elite Cycling Team.

I am fortunate enough to have coached one of their team members for the last year which included a lot of fun, personal growth on both of our parts, a National and a State Championship along the way. Congratulations again Marianne! It’s goinjg to be fun to keep up with you guys on your blog and via e-mail regularly and the phone on occasion.

They have done really well in the early season training races with several podiums, some field sprint wins and at least a win or 2 already. Congratulations Lara, Lauren & crew! They’re going to be one of the teams in the SE to be reckoned with and I love to watch women’s cycling grow and get more press all of the time. I’ve added their blog to my blog roll so those interested can stay on top of what’s going on with those top men’s and women’s teams in the SE all season. http://www.hincapiecycling.blogspot.com/

National & Local Women’s Cycling News
Now, instead of the Travel Girls and Advil/ChapStick women, (who are all still at it and doing great on their new teams BTW), we’ll be keeping closer tabs on the Hincappie Cycling Women’s Elite Team, the US Womens National Development Team and our local favorites, the Sorella Forte Team who I am also fortunate to get to work with in many capacities which I both enjoy and appreciate immensely.

You can keep tabs on the US Womens National Development Team, which actually keeps a diary in Cycling News, from our blog roll as well. Their interesting to keep tabs on because their team is made up of so many women from different teams, levels and even niche of cycling within the sport and around the country. Interesting stuff!

Unfortunately the Sorella Team does not have a blog, as their exploits are many, and they are very successful locally. However, I do know that they have an internal list-serve so who knows? Maybe a blog is in the works. I’ll LYK if one pops up! :-)

*************************************

It’s going to be another exciting year of women’s cycling my friends! We’ll keep ya posted as to if and/or when any local women’s clinic, camps, webinars, workshops or other events pop up on the calendar as well.

Best of luck ladies!

Ronde Flyer Now Posted w/ Donated Prize List

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

Due to my being busier than I care to admit and the fact that I am usually just not up on the latest news, I hope that I am not giving you guys info that you already have. However, there’s a new spin on this presentation, so you’d better read the fine print if you want to partake in any of the fun!

However, I’m not sure if anyone has actually posted a copy of the Ronde flyer on the web so I am going to do that as a part of my contribution to this year’s event since I won’t be ripping it like Bettini on crack. (God, I love the way that guy rides, but that’s another point no one cares about).

So, for those who haven’t seen it, or just want to see it again, but on the best web site in town (next to the Oregon DMV’s, of course), then here it is, but you didn’t see it here, get it? ;-) ;-)

I predict the following on this ride, and while I’ll likely be about 85% wrong, I’m going to make them anyways. Here goes:

1) Satlzman is going to look like a prison break on bicycles.

2) Hugh finishes 1 hour faster than he did last year.

3) Brad drinks a beer before 10am.

4) There will be at least 2 dozen people dressed up in ridiculous outfits. Some will make me laugh while others will make me cringe. I’m taking photos of them all.

5) Adnan complains about something if he’s on the ride or even if he’s not.

6) Eric V. rips it like the hard-man classic rider he ought to be. Too bad they don’t have a cat 3 division at Paris Roubaix.

7) Keri makes the front group that dropped me last year.

8) I go hoarse yelling for everyone while getting disliked by many.

9) At least 50 people get lost at some point during the ride.

10) A great time is had by all.

***VERY IMPORTANT INFO***

Prizes are available for those who accomplish the following oddities performed during the ride courtesy of yours truly and Endurofit.

*The first man and woman after College and Brynwood that says “nice job jerky-lips”, wins an Endurofit T-shirt, and it will not even have been worn yet!

**The first person I see on the ride in an outfit other than a cycling kit will receive a copy of The Next Level, Strength Training for Endurance Athletes DVD whether you want it or not.

***The first one to make it up College and Brynwood out of the saddle w/out doing the paper-boy weave wins a 6-pack of Pabst Blue Ribbon, the Schlitz of beer flavored water. (Must be either documented on film or vouched for by reliable sources).

****To be eligible for any of the above prizes you must not have received one of these before or the prize will go to the next eligible person to accomplish the feat or do the stupid thing, which ever the case may be.

*****Check back at my blog 1 week after the ride to see how many I got right. Contact me to claim prizes at info@endurofit.com.

And w/out further ado (notice I put it at the end so that you’re more likely to read my tangential ramblings), which is why most of you read this inane post after all.

More Ronde Press

Friday, March 21st, 2008

I swear, this “not-a-ride”, ride has quite the ground swell to it this year. Too bad I’m not in “surfing” shape this season.

However, I am in snot-dripping, mouths agape, gasping for breath, walking your bike, top of the hill, photo-taking shape.

So look your best my fellow Rondites and don’t forget to smile when I say…CHEEZE! :-)

Check out the Ronde comments and smack talk going down on

Coaching & Performance Quote of the Week

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

This excellent quote was brought to us by a new friend of Endurofit who who really gets what a holistic approach to performance is all about.

Their open-mindedness, eagerness to learn and willingness to put those lessons to practice via hard work has, is, and will continue to pay off and it’s been fun to watch them grow as a result.

This quote of the week was given to them by a coach in their earlier years, by the name of Don Sachey, and goes like this.

“You begin by doing things unconsciously wrong. Then you begin to do them consciously wrong. Then comes consciously right, then finally unconsciously right.”

Now if this doesn’t sum up the process that just about every cyclist has gone through, including myself, en route to learning the tactics that make up the game of cycling, the hard way, then I don’t know what does.

While this was uttered in reference to coaching equestrian athletes, it’s message and profound simplicity is so dead on, that I just had to share it with you all.

No thought is original, so I owe everything I put on here to others, and on that note I would like to extend a heart felt “thank you” to L. C. for sharing this one with us.

Be sure to be on the lookout for a SUCCESS TIP on this subject in the upcoming weeks. If you’re not already receiving these free gems, then what are you waiting for?

Get your butt on over to our Free Success Tip & Newsletter Sign Up page and start getting your free weekly uplifting and educational success tips that are guaranteed to improve your performance and your life.

Here’s to another great week of joy filled living and strong tailwinds! :-)

Enjoy!

The Ronde Pirate Ride Is Upon Us!

Monday, March 3rd, 2008
If you haven’t heard of the Ronde La Portland pirate ride yet, then again, you’re probably about as up on local cycling lore as I am about Britney Spear’s escapades. All irrelevant analogies aside, if you ride a bike, and can go up a hill, then it’s time to put a 12/27 on your lightest bike (or if your from Portland, then maybe you should do it on a single speed) and get ready for what’s about the most pain one can experience in a short 40 miles +/-.

This is the 2nd year of this event that was created to celebrate the Tour of Flanders that’s run on the same day. The only difference is that we ain’t pro’s and this course, makes the tour of Flanders look easy. Maybe it’s the many climbs w/ grades over 20% of the fact that they just never freaking stop coming; but whatever it is, it makes for some painful riding and some really good times had by all.

I did it when I was actually still in decent shape last year, and while I was able to make it to within a kilometer of the finish w/ the first 5 guys, it put a fork in me and I haven’t been forked like that since and likely never will (aside from the frost bite I got on Saturday’s ride, but we’ll save that one for another time when you are even more bored than you are today).

The bottom line is that like most things in the Portland cycling scene, it’s grass roots, fun (and pain) based stuff like this that really makes this city, the people and the cycling scene what it’s all about. I can’t wait to cheer you all on from a lawn chair atop College Ave. Don’t worry, I’ll hand you a beer right after I snap a photo of you with spittle dripping down the side of your face with your eyes crossed! ;-)

Check out some footage from last year’s event put together by local cyclist, Vocal Chord Surgeon, budding film producer and all around great guy, Jim Thomas at the link below.

And for all of the nitty gritty info, check out the flyer below. I found it stapled to a telephone poll down the street! ;-)

Check out the flyer here!

Enjoy!

Chalk Up Another Performance Resource in PDX

Health & Performance Chiropractic to have Grand Opening Soon

In the short time that I have been in Portland, one of the names I come to know quite quickly on the road and in business is Seth Hosmer. Unless you’ve been living under a cycling rock for the last year, the current Pro 1/2 State Crit and Time Trial Champion has gotten his Chiropractic degree in the last year and has opened an office right down town.

Since I don’t believe in competition in business (as my philosophy is that we are our only competition) and because I both like and respect Seth, I thought I would announce his grand opening to all those interested on my blog. It sounds like it’s going to be a lot of fun with live music, free stuff and a chance to check out his new facility, which I give him two thumbs up for creating. The more performance and health resources available locally, the better for us all.
Here are the basic details below:

Thu Mar 6 6pm – 10pm
(Timezone: Pacific Time)
228 SW 1st Ave, Portland OR

VISIT HIS SITE for more information at www.hpchiro.com.

Hope to see you there, but since its my birthday, I might be otherwise engaged. So, y’all have fun w/out me, and great luck and much abundance to Seth and his new venture. It’s just one more excellent resource for cyclists, endurance athletes and health conscious individuals in this great city of ours.
